How Newborn Baby and Infant Assessments Help

Understanding Your Baby’s Early Development with a Newborn Assessment

A newborn assessment looks at how your baby moves, responds, and participates in daily care activities such as feeding, settling, and tummy time. An infant development assessment explores your baby’s emerging skills in areas like head control, rolling, reaching, early play, and interaction with carers

Your therapist considers your baby’s age, birth history, medical background, and current abilities to build a clear picture of their development. The focus is on what your baby is already doing well, where they might need extra support, and which small changes could make daily care and routines easier.

Infant and Toddler Assessment

An infant assessment or infant toddler assessment is helpful when you want to monitor skills over time, particularly if your baby was born early or has known health or developmental risks. Regular reviews can track progress in movement, play, communication, sleep, and self‑regulation.

Your therapist can provide practical strategies for positioning, play, and interaction that support development and will let you know if more frequent therapy, referrals, or additional assessments are recommended. If your child is eligible for NDIS, we can also connect this information with a future NDIS assessment in Gympie.

Support for Families in Gympie

Newborn and infant development assessments at Malone Therapy are family‑centred and flexible, with options to see you in the clinic or discuss arrangements that work best for your family. Our therapists explain what they are observing in clear, everyday language so you feel confident understanding your baby’s strengths and needs. If ongoing support is helpful, we can provide support as your children’s occupational therapist in Gympie or with more targeted services such as a handwriting assessment when school skills become a focus.
