A Day in the Life of a Paediatric Therapist at Malone Therapy

At Malone Therapy, our paediatric therapists experience a real mix of busy moments, laughter, and the satisfaction of making a difference for children with disabilities. Every day brings new challenges and plenty of rewarding moments—helping kids grow and learn is what keeps us passionate about this work. Here’s a look at what a typical day is like for our team.

Morning Routine

My day usually starts around 7:30 AM. Arriving early gives me time to get organised before things get busy. I review my schedule and get ready for a full day of therapy sessions with children who have a wide range of needs, including those on the autism spectrum and kids with other developmental challenges. Starting the day prepared helps me give each child the attention and support they deserve.

When the children arrive, the clinic instantly feels more lively and energetic. I greet each child with a genuine smile and a warm welcome—building a good connection from the start really matters. Kids who feel comfortable and at ease with their therapist are more likely to join in during sessions, which can make a real difference in their progress.

Therapy Sessions

My mornings are filled with one-on-one therapy sessions, each one tailored to a child’s individual needs. For example, if a child needs help with fine motor skills, we might use fun activities like obstacle courses, pretend play, drawing, or play dough to build those abilities in a playful way. And if they're into Bluey or Spiderman or KPop Demon Hunters ? Then we use a theme to help with motivation. Every child gets a plan just for them so our time together makes the biggest impact.

There’s also plenty going on between sessions—writing notes, planning ahead, keeping in touch with families and other key parties, creating new resources, and working on reports. The face-to-face appointments are just part of what goes into making each day successful for the kids and their families.

Lunch Break and Reflection

By lunchtime, I’m definitely ready for a well-earned break! The mornings are busy and can be exhausting, but they’re also incredibly rewarding. Even on the busiest days, watching kids achieve little milestones—like saying a new word or mastering a task—reminds me just how special this work is. Taking a pause to recharge means I can give every child my best for the rest of the day.

Afternoon Sessions

Afternoons are just as busy with therapy sessions. Working with parents is a big part of my job—I share practical tips they can use at home, like building therapy goals into daily routines.

Collaboration is important, too. I regularly meet with the other therapists at Malone Therapy and in our community to discuss our clients and fine-tune our approaches. We have weekly team meetings and ongoing discipline-specific supervision, which help ensure we provide coordinated, high-quality support for the kids and families we work with.

Wrapping Up the Day

At the end of each day, I make sure all progress notes and plans for upcoming sessions are up to date. Keeping detailed records is essential for monitoring each child’s development and planning effective therapy. When the day is done, it’s rewarding to know I’ve played a part in supporting these kids’ progress.

The Rewarding Journey of Paediatric Therapy

Working as a paediatric therapist at Malone Therapy is genuinely rewarding. Every day brings new challenges and successes, and it’s a privilege to support children and their families along the way. For parents of children with disabilities: there’s help available, and together we can work towards helping your child achieve their goals.
