HOW CAN OUR SPEECH THERAPY (SLP) TEAM HELP?

Speech Therapy

1. Articulation and Phonology

  • We help children develop clear and accurate speech sounds. We assess articulation errors and phonological patterns, providing therapy to improve pronunciation and speech intelligibility.

2. Language Development

  • We support children in developing language skills, including vocabulary, grammar, syntax, and comprehension. We address delays or disorders in expressive and receptive language abilities, tailoring therapy to your child's age, developmental level, interests and individual needs.

3. Fluency Disorders (Stuttering)

  • We work with children who stutter to improve fluency and reduce disfluencies in speech. We provide strategies and techniques to enhance speech fluency, manage stuttering behaviours, and build confidence in communication.

4. Pragmatic (Social) Communication

  • We address pragmatic language skills, including social communication, conversational turn-taking, topic maintenance, nonverbal cues, and understanding social contexts. We help children navigate social interactions and develop effective communication strategies.

5. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

  • We assist children who have limited or no verbal speech in accessing communication systems and devices. We evaluate AAC needs, recommend appropriate communication tools, and provide training to children, families, and educators on how to use AAC systems effectively.

6. Feeding and Swallowing Disorders (Dysphagia)

  • We assess and treat feeding and swallowing difficulties in children, addressing issues such as oral motor coordination, chewing, sucking, and swallowing safety. They develop individualized feeding plans and provide therapy to improve oral-motor skills and swallowing function.

7. Literacy and Pre-Literacy Skills

  • We support the development of literacy skills in children, including phonological awareness, letter-sound correspondence, decoding, reading comprehension, and writing skills. We collaborate with educators to integrate language and literacy goals into classroom activities.

8. Auditory Processing Disorders

  • We evaluate and treat auditory processing disorders (APD) in children, which affect the brain's ability to interpret auditory information. We provide therapy to improve auditory discrimination, auditory memory, sound localisation, and auditory comprehension skills.

9. Cognitive Communication Skills

  • We address cognitive communication difficulties in children, including attention, memory, problem-solving, executive functioning, and inferential reasoning skills. We develop strategies to support communication and cognitive skills in academic and social contexts.
