HOW CAN OUR OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY (OT) TEAM HELP?

Occupational Therapy

1. Fine Motor Skills

  • We help children develop and refine their fine motor skills, which involve the coordination and control of small muscles in the hands and fingers. This includes activities such as handwriting, drawing, cutting with scissors, buttoning, and tying shoelaces.

2. Gross Motor Skills

  • We support the development of gross motor skills, which involve the coordination and control of large muscle groups for activities like walking, running, jumping, climbing, and balance tasks.

3. Sensory Processing

  • We work with children who have sensory processing difficulties, helping them regulate and respond to sensory input from their environment.

4. Self-Care Skills (Activities Of Daily Living – ADL)

  • We assist children in acquiring and refining self-care skills necessary for daily living, such as dressing, feeding, grooming, toileting, bathing, and hygiene routines.

5. Play Skills

  • We use play-based interventions to promote the development of social, cognitive, emotional, and motor skills. They may focus on enhancing a child's ability to engage in functional and imaginative play, turn-taking, sharing, problem-solving, and social interaction.

6. Cognitive Skills

  • We support cognitive development by addressing areas such as attention, memory, organization, planning, sequencing, problem-solving, and executive functioning skills.

7. Visual Perception Skills

  • We help children develop visual perception skills, including visual discrimination, visual memory, spatial relations, and visual-motor integration (eye-hand coordination).

8. Behaviour And Emotional Regulation

  • We work with children to develop strategies for managing emotions, self-regulation, coping skills, social skills, and behavioural challenges.

9. Environmental Adaptations And Assistive Technology

  • We assess the child's environment and recommend adaptations, modifications, or assistive devices to improve accessibility, safety, and independence in daily activities.

10. School And Academic Performance

  • We collaborate with educators to support children's academic success by addressing issues related to handwriting, keyboarding, organization, attention, sensory needs, and classroom participation.

11. Transition And Life Skills

  • We assist teens and tweens in developing skills necessary for transitioning to adulthood, such as cooking, independent living skills, time management, and community integration.
